West Coast Safaris

West Coast Private Game Reserve was established in October 2024 as a collaboration between conservation-minded people in the area. The +1,600 ha Game reserve borders West Coast National Park to the North and the Ocean to the west.
The vegetation and landscape changes towards the east covering 3 west coast biomes. Closest to the beach, the area consists of Langebaan Dune Strandveld, which turns into Saldhana flats Strandveld and then turns into Hopefield Sand Fynbos, with Pincushions and Proteas earmarking the transition. The salt pans in the area add striking features to the landscape and allow for seasonal wetlands to develop attracting a myriad of birds.
We offer authentic high-quality safaris, with qualified guides using 9 seater land cruiser game drive vehicles (no mass tourism). Wildlife you can see on the reserve includes: Giraffe, Zebra, Wildebeest, Eland, Kudu, Springbok, Waterbuck, Hartebeest, Steenbok, Duiker and Ostrich as well as a number of smaller animals such as the leopard tortoises and hares.

• • • • Game drives last 2.5 – 3 hours, depending on what you see. This includes a stop for a tea break with simple snacks, where you can get out the vehicle to stretch your legs and maybe get even closer to the animals.

• • Game drives depart twice a day at 9am and 2pm.

• • Game drives start and finish at the Weskus Padstal, where our reservations office is located – corner of R315 & R27. We are specifically staying away from the semi-caged big 5 experience found elsewhere and want to offer genuine wild experiences.

We also offer the chance to do a horse ride safari and/or beach ride on Yzerfontein’s 16 Mile Beach. If there are children in the group, there is the option to ‘double donkey’ with the child in front of the adult, or the adults can do a horse ride while the children take a pony ride.
